about.
Lola Casamitjana works with photography and writing in search of a balance between mediums in introspective projects, questioning our perception of the world.
Born in Annecy, of Moroccan, Italian and Catalan origins, Lola Casamitjana left France at the age of 17 to set out to meet the world, with a camera and writing materials in her backpack. Since then, she has lived in India, the United States and Belgium and discovered many other countries, from Thailand to Peru, through Cambodia, Colombia, Ecuador, Greece, ...
After graduating as a scientific technician in photography, a bachelor's degree in fine arts and several internships (laboratory, studio and post-production), Lola Casamitjana now creates projects combining images and texts through different formats: video, editing, slide show and sound, prints and printed texts.
Shocked by the terrorist attacks in Paris, Brussels and Nice, by the false success of COP21 and the rise of extremes in politics - Lola Casamitjana explains that the year 2016 marked a turning point in the way she approaches her work.
Although her inspirations are multiple - Patti Smith, Lee Jeffries, Ferrante Ferranti, Sophie Calle, John Giorno... she has found common traits in them that nourish her reflection: a quest for light and knowledge, a sincere and personal expression through art.
I'm finally realizing I'm not going to be able to stand by and watch humanity self-destruct. The questions have become more pressing: How can you be an artist in a world where you have to fight? How can I find in art my answer to the surrounding chaos? For me transformation can only come through knowledge.
My answer is to use art to question, to question my perception of the world, the illusion of our separation. Trying to connect beings through self-awareness, through the realization of a common humanity.

"From Paris to San Francisco and back to me.
Paris seduced me by its beauty, by its history, by its stones that whispered in my ear, by the faces and bodies that lived there. In this city where everything goes so fast I wanted to stop, to listen, to read in the signs forgotten stories. A majesty, a splendour, but also solitude, like a bittersweet presence that accompanies in the heart of the immensity. Photography, a discovery..."

"Discrimination. A plexiglass plate. My body.
Discrimination is a heady subject, which takes the throat, which touches and yet no longer jostles. We think we know what it means. We have been sensitized. We lived it, suffered it. Faced with this global vision of an overused word, I seek my meaning ... "

"Through this project, I wanted to share with the spectator my personal look on the city. Allow him to dwell on its infinite possibilities, these countless lives that he crosses and perhaps transforms and certainly forgets. Allow him to see through my eyes, the time of the presentation, the city he often crosses without seeing it. "
